2000 CHEVY ASTRO LS 8 PASSENGER 2WD CLEAN
KELLEY BLUE BOOK VALUE $3685-4270
I'm the second owner of this Astro. I purchased from a Chevy dealer with only 23,000 miles on the odometer several years ago. I have owned 2 other Astros and love these vans but currently do not need 2 of them. Please read the complete descriptions of what it may or may not need as I wanted to be as honest as an Ebay seller hopefully would be for me. I've listed it as FAIR KELLEY's BLUE BOOK value largely due to the new tires it will need and repairs mentioned below. But, this is one Astro that presents itself in very good condition!
Vehicle has these features:
REAR WHEEL DRIVE - Less maintenance than FWD
8 PASSENGER - Seat can remove easily or fold for those work or weekend hauling trips!
VERY GOOD SHINY PAINT - Few Nicks (see pics)
NO RUST SPOTS - a couple nicks (See pics) but very well cared for and accident free body
157070 ACTUAL MILES - all scheduled maintenance performed by owner - oil changes every 3-5K miles and I'm very particular about maintaining all my vehicles to last. Newer Alternator, exhaust, brake pads (may need rotors replaced or resurfaced though to quiet - can't sometimes be noisy - additional description below)
4.3 LT VORTEC V6 - a strong running dependable motor history - I've owned 4 of these motors - last one had nearly 400,000 miles on it - still strong, had a friend that put 650,000 miles on his Astro before it died. Obviously can't guarantee you'll have the same results but Google facts for yourself! A great Astro website is AstroSafari.com
4 SPEED AUTOMATIC OVERDRIVE - VERY GOOD GAS MILEAGE - I average 22MPH Highway, 17MPG City - Awesome for a vehicle this size.
TOWING PACKAGE - Class II Uhaul Hitch with Adjustable Air Shocks - I occasionally pulled a small cargo trailer or boat (1200 lbs.) and it did great! Lost only 1-2 MPG towing the boat!
COLD FRONT REAR AIR - AC cools fine, but vent control is stuck in the Defrost/Floor mode. This is usually a cheap fix (a vacuum hose is simply off I've been told - I have the procedure on how to fix it) but don't have time to provide the labor. I'll provide a repair instruction sheet for a problem with the same symptoms.
CRUISE CONTROL - works great - perfect for long trips!
TILT WHEEL - Works fine several positions
ELECTRIC MIRRORS - Astro power mirrors are known to stick occasionally. Usually a little WD40 resolves this. Currently all position work on both mirrors except right mirror (up command). Can still move manually.
POWER WINDOWS - All are working fine
POWER DOOR LOCKS - A problem area for Astros based on their history - Depending on outside temperature the rear door and slider usually work, the passenger and driver door are less reliable. I've just lock them manually although if you need power locks - actuators are available and for around $40 each and installation procedures are explained online.
AM / FM STEREO WITH CD - works fine - very good sound
CLOTH INTERIOR - Rarer blue interior - Doesnt show dirt or wear as much as lighter interiors. I've had 2 Astros with blue, my Astro now has Gray and I hate it! Too much trouble to keep looking nice.
FRONT BUCKET SEATS - seats tilt and slide adjust as needed
REAR FOLD DOWN BENCH SEATS - (2) 3 passenger seats each - remove easily or fold for hauling. Total of 8 passengers/seatbelts in this mini/full crossover vehicle.
DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAG - no known problems - never had to use them...
CHILD SAFETY LOCKS - prevents slider door from opening from the inside
ROOF CONSOLE WITH MAP LIGHTS - Also includes computer for outside temperature, compass, miles left on tank, average and instant MPG. Places for sunglasses , garage remote control and CD's. A great feature!
DUAL SUNVISOR VANITY MIRRORS - large and well lit
INTERIOR MAP LIGHTS - everyone has a directional reading light in this "coach".
ROOF LUGGAGE RACK MOUNTS - Rack has been removed, but rivet nuts are still in place should you wish to purchase a used rack. A factory rack would bolt on in minutes. Currently covered with white duct tape, although they have never leaked - I just thought it looked better to anyone who happened to be climbing on my roof. Unless you super tall, you cannot even see these rivets without a ladder.
REAR CARGO AREA WITH TIE DOWNS - Tie downs are mounted in rear floor (can use seat mounting points for additional tie downs) - perfect for the weekend warrior projects or fun!
MULTI FUNCTION REAR HATCH - This is a really cool dutch door upgrade feature. They sure come in handy and allow for a rear windshield wiper and electric defroster. The hatch does need 2 new shocks though (less than $50 for parts - easy install) - On hot days the oil in the shocks thins and I just used "vice grips" to hold it open. Cooler and cold days they worked fine at holding the hatch.
NON SMOKER - No smokers in our family
NO KNOWN MAJOR MECHANICAL PROBLEMS - but hey this is a used vehicle and it does have 157,070 miles on it so don't expect a new van. No oil leaks under the vehicle when parked (a good thing). If I was keeping the vehicle for another 10 years I would have the brake rotors/drums resurfaced. The front pads are fine but sometimes make a "grunting" noise when stopping. It's not a grinding (metal to metal) type noise but more of a "shudder". I've been told this is from the pads not making a flat contact with the rotors or they may be glazed. Currently this vehicle is not driven daily since I have another Astro but it starts immediately even after sitting for a week or more. I'm trying to be as honest as I would want a seller to be to me on this van. Also, sometimes in moist or humid, sometimes cold weather the serpentine belt makes a slight squeaking. Belt dressing might help this, a new belt (I'm including a used spare one in this sale) might help. Alternator and tensioners pulleys were replaced about 30K miles ago. Another "Gremlin" (or quirk) in the vehicle is that after a HARD brake, sometimes the dash lights flash? Was told it could be a loose wire (somewhere?) or battery terminal - but it has never affected the running of the vehicle. The lights/gauges simply flash and go back out and all is fine. Could probably chase this one down as something simple if so inclined but it has never affected the performance of the van for me so I didn't worry about it. (occasionally happens once or twice a year over the last 4 years).
CLEAR OHIO TITLE - no liens, will provide and transfer at pickup - see below for details.
GREAT PAINT - I have a 2003 Astro also and when I refer to my NEW van most people think that the 2000 is the newer van based on its curb appearance. A few nicks as noted in the pics.
STRONG RUNNING CONDITION - Has started the first crank everytime for me in all weather conditions.
GOOD/POOR TIRES - They are getting thin and I'd recommend replacement. I'd estimate 5-10K still left depending on your definition of "safety".
ALUMINUM ALLOY WHEELS - Easy to clean, some marks here and there but overall very good.
GREAT INTERIOR - A couple of fabric tears as noted in the photos (small tear on passenger seat near sliding door and drivers seat)
4 WHEEL ABS BRAKES - See brake notes above
VARIABLE SPEED WIPERS - both front and rear (nice feature in winter)
CLASS II RECEIVER HITCH - Class II U-Haul hitch with Adjustable Air Shocks - I occasionally pulled a small cargo trailer or boat (1200 lbs.) and it did great! Lost only 1-2 MPG towing the boat!
